Beginning with his time in the Michigan State House of Representatives, Senator Irwin has introduced and sponsored legislation that makes environmental investments possible for the state and for individual constituents. For example, in 2015 he introduced a bill to eliminate tax penalties for investments in clean energy in Michigan homes.
This year Senator Irwin led on budgetary investments to provide more than $1 billion in funding to clean water initiatives, as well as millions for affordable housing. He has also spent time advocating for a public electric utility in Ann Arbor to meet the city’s goal of delivering 100% renewable power by 2030.
